Quiet for the Start free essay sample
ââ¬Å"Quiet for the Startâ⬠Finally, after months of detailed training and rigorous practice, my hard work paid off; I had made it to the state championship. Pride welled up in my heart as I walked up to the starting block with my relay team and we got ready to swim our event. Looking out over the pool, memories flashed across my mind; memories of times long gone. I remember waking up at 5:00 am every morning to swim before school. I remember the mental and physical battles during difficult workouts. But now in hindsight all the pain and labor has paid off. Now it is all worth it. Nothing matters but this race right here, right now. Not only was this my last race of the season but it was also the last swim of my high school career. Four years of labor had prepared me for this moment. A hush fell over the stands as the announcer said, ââ¬Å"Quiet for the start. We will write a custom essay sample on Quiet for the Start or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page â⬠For a few brief moments everything was silent, a tension waiting to be broken. Then, as the buzzer sounded, the air exploded with cheers and the race began. The roar of the crowd was immediately silenced as I entered the water and a peaceful calm took its place. Slicing the water as a knife through butter, I led off the relay. I held a key role in influencing the mental state of my teammates. Confidence would be established if I led the pool, uncertainty if I dropped behind. As I approached the surface of the water I knew it would be a great race. I was prepared, mentally and physically, for the swim ahead of me. Desiring to make my team proud, I swam with all my might. Only a mere twenty-three seconds later, I was done. While my teammates dove in and continued the relay, I got out of the pool and checked my split; the last spilt of my high school career. With disbelief I saw that I had just swam a personal best. All of my hard work had paid off. The daily workouts, lack of sleep, and the physical and mental exhaustion of swimming were all worth it. I had done my job, now it was up to my teammates. Nervously, I watched on as they finished the relay. When our final time came up on the board my mind just went blank. We had been disqualified for an early start. Frustration welled up inside me, like lava in a volcano. I could not believe that instead of my last race ending as a personal best, it was to be dismissed entirely. My main issue was not that my fastest split would be negated, but the fact that I had worked so hard to do my best and one of my teammates had ruined it for me. All the time, money, and energy I had invested in the sport had culminated into my final race and it became a bitter memory to end an otherwise wonderful career. Now that I look back on it, however, I see a lesson in my struggles. Nothing I did could determine how other influences would affect me. My investment in swimming prepared me as an individual but it could not protect me from someone elseââ¬â¢s shortcomings. All of my time and energy was not wasted just because I had to accept the consequences of someone elseââ¬â¢s failure. I swam my best time and accomplished what I wanted. I had reached and achieved my goal. I should not let the mistake of another determine the value of my success. Real reward is in the journey you take to achieve something, not only in the final product. True, as a team we had lost, but individually, I had won.

Impeachment of Clinton&Johnson essays
Impeachment of Clinton&Johnson essays The Federalist Papers were written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay in order to garner support for the soon to be Constitution of the United States. In 65, Hamilton discusses the powers of the senate in relation to the impeachment process. The Senate is designated as sufficiently dignified and sufficiently independent since it is able to remain unawed and uninfluenced, and therefore, able to preserve the impartiality between accused and accuser/s. Yet in the impeachment trials of both Presidents Johnson and Clinton, the Senate proved to be anything but uninfluenced as politics came into play during both cases. During his reintegration of the South into the union, Johnson made enemies of an influential faction in the Republican Party, the Radicals. They believed that their goals could only be achieved once the president had been removed from office. Many other Republicans had been offended with his leniency towards the former Confederate States, forcing them to cooperate with the Radicals, yet impeachment seemed to drastic a measure. Two attempts of impeachment were made, but they resulted in failure. The action of President Johnson that led directly to his impeachment was his deliberate violation of the Tenure of Office Act. The Tenure of Office Act expanded the power to advise and consent" by giving the Senate the right to accept or to reject the dismissal of presidential appointees. Under this law, the president could not remove incumbents in the executive branch while the Senate was in session without a majority vote in favor of the action. When the Senate was not in session, the pre sident could suspend an official and appoint a temporary replacement that would remain until the Senate returned and confirmed it. The president had vetoed the act, but the Republican majority in Congress overrode the veto. Believing that the act was unconstitutiona...

Business path way - Essay Example Income inequality may either benefit an economy or derail the economic growth. The extent to which income inequality negatively affects the economic growth is debatable. This essay provides an elaborate argument about the degree in which income inequality may affect the economy. Overview This essay provides an overview of some of the ways in which income inequality may influence an economy. It contains several ideas regarding the degree in which income inequality may affect growth of an economy. It provides thorough analysis of possible positive effects of income inequality and the negative effects of income inequality on an economy. This essay covers an elaborate debate which clearly points out at risks that may be imposed on an economy due to income inequality. 2.0 Main Body: Effects Analysis Income inequality is instigated by supply and demand for labor caused by imperfect competition and uneven distribution of information. Income inequality may have different effects on economy. It may either drag or catapult growth of economy. The central theme of this analysis is to make an evaluation about the degree in which income inequality may negatively affect economic growth. 2.1 Positive Effects on Economic Growth High income inequality may be vital for economic growth. ... Excessive money in circulation may have extremely negative effect on the growth an economy due to inflation. Foreign trade may be very expensive especially when a country tries to import raw materials. Moreover, low income earners may tend to borrow money from financial institutions and this can be used as a tool for controlling money circulation (Castello-Climent 2010, 293-315). Additionally, there income inequality may result into wide gap between the rich and the poor. Wider gap between the rich and the poor can be very helpful in promoting competition and innovativeness. There is a high level of social stratification which prompts competition for status thus spurring growth of the economy due to hard work (Judis 2013, n.p). Also high income inequality may decrease efficiency because of low incentive to work. Because of income inequality, the rich will always get richer and save money for investment (Allen 1999, 143-150). Furthermore, high income earners may enjoy all the faciliti es such as the recreational facilities present in the country thus increasing revenue earned from these facilities. Happiness which is associated with high income contributes a lot in predicting the future behaviors such as productivity in the labor market and happier people also tend to be healthier and live longer (Shin 2012, 2049-2056). 2.2 Negative Effects on Economic Growth Nevertheless, income inequality has an adverse effect on the growth of an economy. Equal income inequality reduces the gap between the rich and the poor thus leading to distributive efficiency within a country. Distributive efficiency reduces marginal utility of resources and further lowers personal utility. An extra dollar consumed by a low income earner is automatically directed to necessities which are

Writting exercises - Research Paper Example Perhaps this is a new way of saying that like poles attract but indeed, the male gender has a habit of concentrating more on movies that have been presented in the feminine form. Most masculine gender has been noted to take a keen interest in movies, be they in nudity, in clothes or half dressed as long as they represent the female roles and character. Recent developments have been made to the movie industry with the introduction of male actors in the female roles. Among such epics is the ` Law of Desireââ¬â¢ which is a representation of the much renounced representation of moral deterioration in the society. However, the shifting of the roles here is commendable as men go on stage to represent women in active roles. The epic is set in Madrid and has been integrated with a world of male passion deep and intriguing to internalize. Pablo is a homosexual movie director whose latest release is being celebrated. Having sent off his love Juan to the countryside so as to create some distance between them, he meets Antonio after the party and the two get acquainted. Antonio who is obsessed with Pablo soon moves in to fill the space Juan left. At the end of the party, the two leave together for the home and Antonio has the first experience of anal sex in his life. Antonio thus develops a deeper sense of attachment to Pablo which is unknown to him but begins to show. While Pablo does not recognize this love feeling by Antonio terming it as a lusty occurrence because he remains to be in love and attached to Juan, the other party, Antonio misunderstands him and shows his possessive attitude as a lover. Essay Essay Example for Free
Essay Essay There are many things in our life that we can compare and contrast to one another, but one subject that stands out to me would be the differences between male and female friends. We all have friends that are male and female in our life. Although, we do not really notice it sometimes but there are many similarities and differences between having male and female friends. Therefore, in this paper I will be explaining the similarities and differences in having male and female friends. When talking about female friends, most people think about emotions. Female friends love to talk to each other about emotions, which draws them closer as friends. They talk about the deepest problems and never hold back how they feel to one another. Female friends will also show physical contact by hugging one another and kissing each otherââ¬â¢s cheek. They also are more comfortable around each other. For example, females are not scared to change clothes around each other and tell each other how they are really feeling. Although, having a female friend is more capable to put drama in our life. Drama is something most girls strive for; they love to have a lot of drama in their life. This addiction for females can cause a lot of problems for themselves as well as their closest friends. Having a female friend can also be an advantage for other females because; they will let their friends borrow each otherââ¬â¢s items. Therefore, if someone needs a new dress for a party they can j ust look into their friends closet and simply take it for the night. Female friends are good to have although male friends are completely different than the female friends in our life. Although when we talk about male friends, most people think loyalty. Unlike female friends male friends do not like to talk about emotions. Males like to talk about other things as in, basketball games, different girls they think are cute, or how life is going in general. Male friends also do not show physical contact like female friends do. Male friends do not like toà usually hug or touch their female or male friends unless it is their significant other. They also do not hide anything; they will tell us the truth no matter how bad it will hurt us. Unlike female friends they do not like nor carry drama. Male friends do not like drama at all, they stand as far away as possible from it. The advantage of having a male friend is they do not strive for drama like females, so we will not be pulled into their problems. Also unlike female friends, males do not let other friends borrow their clothes, they rarely let anyone touch or wear their clothes but themselves. These many differences between male and female friends that I have mentioned also have similarities. No matter how many differences male and female friends have, there are also many similarities. Having both male and female friends give us many options on who we can go and talk to about anything. No matter if they are a female or male friend, we know that they will always be here to protect us and listen to every problem we have. Both types of friends also make us feel wanted and loved. Even if we are having a bad day we have both genders of friends to cheer us up not matter the circumstances. In conclusion, female and male friends are similar and different in many ways. We need to be friends with both female and male to make a good balance in our friendships. No matter how much female or male friends we have they all benefit us in many ways. Although, there are many differences in the gender of friends, they are always here for us no matter the differences or similarities.

Evolution, God and Society :: essays research papers
The Island of Dr. Moreau Evolution, God and Society à à à à à In the book The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells, we see a microcosm in which Evolution, God and the society are all represented by something strange. First, Dr. Moreau is playing the role of God. Dr. Moreau is an educated man trying to prove that he can turn an animal into a human form, so that the animal will forget all of its animal instincts and become more and more human. After Moreau created these beast men, he then controlled them through fear. The fear was of pain. The house of pain was were the creatures were created and they all remember the pain and therefore associate Dr. Moreau with pain so they do not have to go back. à à à à à Montgomery played the part of an ignorant assistant. Montgomery was not a stupid man, but he was torn between good and bad, right and wrong, and friendships. I think he tried to play the part of the massager or the son, but he did not agree with what Moreau was doing to the animals. The Creatures did not respect him the same as Moreau because he had not caused them any physical pain. Montgomery fit in and got along with the beast people more than Moreau did. If he would have stood up to Moreau and made the experiments stop, he then could have been an angle, or a godlier figure. The only thing that kept Montgomery from going crazy was all the alcohol that made his mental pain go num. à à à à à Then we have Prendick, the voice of reason. Poor Prendick came to the island after being stranded out at see on his little boat. He thought he was going to die, and his friends and family back at home probably thought he was also dead. But, he was saved by a large boat that Montgomery and normal animals were using to get back to the island. When Prendick steps off the boat onto the island, he can not even begin to understand what creatures are lurking around, some even helping to unload the boat and speaking like humans. Within the first week of being on the island, he knew something was wrong and needed to be done. Prendick thought that Dr. Moreau was turning humans into animals. This in his eyes was wrong and he was ready to do something about it.
